"Creating the future is about adopting a mindset, then a passion, then a plan, rather than choosing a path offered by the present...
The future is a place we are creating, and the task of creating a path forward will change both us and where we are going."

Kember, 2006, Futures Thinking for Leading Learning
Our Instructional Rounds network was established in 2010 when four primary school principals in South Western Sydney took a leap of faith in order to strengthen classroom practice throughout their schools. The principals were: Chantal Mama, Linda Barry, Carolyn Wallace-Whelan, Marie Murphy. They were supported by retired school principal, Barbara Reynolds.

Our network has continued to this day, holding one two-day workshop each term.  Each term one school in the network hosts the rounds team. That school also determines the problem of practice that will guide the focus of the professional learning and the classroom observations and data collection.

The network continues to this day showing the value which its principals and teachers have for the rounds process and the individual and network learning that results from it.
THE BEGINNINGS
Before starting our rounds we engaged in two workshops of professional learning.  We identified our fears and hopes for the network.  These fears and hopes are pretty much those experienced by all new schools that engage in instructional rounds.  Then we established our norms and protocols for observation, which have remained (with minor variations) to the current day.
